Hallway Is Out of the Hospital

Last post on the hallway, I promise.

Here's the finished results.

What? Oh, wait...here's the finished results:
The great thing about a project like this is that it can only get better.
                                                                               BEFORE

AFTER
 I love to put the before and after pics because it makes it look like I know what I'm doing. (( ;
See this frame here....I got a few of them from Family Dollar ...hold on, while I get my gagging reflex in check...pure tacky plastic with a big ole $6 yellow sticker. You know the plastic gold junk. Who buys this crap?? Oh yeah, I do. Black plastic paint a print of my posing Zinnias and I LOVE it!
Here's a pic of the pics compliments of such photogenic flowers....
Well, photogenic when they're not behind glass.

Now if I could only get a replica of "thinking man"  to put in the bathroom"on the throne" at the end of this hall
then my gallery/hallway....Gallway...would be complete!

Helmet Head

Adam and I got  this helmet at Walmart.
Usually we would have bypassed something like this but my boy's head needs protection now and this was all they had. -- There's just something a little unnerving to me about imagining a skull on the side of my son's head as he zooms past on his mini motorcycle. - Not cool and I think he loves himself too much for that too.....

So we bought some Krylon plastic spray paint and some acrylic paint. If I had it to do over again, I would have just gotten some decals but Adam had this contagious faith I could do anything and being in Walmart with the endless supply of options, I got caught up in the moment.

So we sprayed helmet and added some embellishment. (I know, it looks a little like blue sea coral rather than blue flames.) Luckily, Adam is still a little too young to realize that his Mom putting sparkles on his cool black helmet is a little too much. He's only disgruntled that I didn't do both sides.

Hallway Hospitalized

So I finally got the hallway painted but I'm thinking that I may have traded the underground tunnel for a hospital corridor!

Actually, I am really happy with the results. So is she...

(Actually, we just spent a good 2 hours straightening her hair and she thinks I'm the coolest for doing that after painting all day.  This seemed like a good opportunity to show her off. (( : Oh, and she likes the hall too.)

The hallway has opened  up tremendously all the way around.  The pictures don't do it justice. It seems taller, wider and  doesn't have that claustrophobic feel. It appears fresher too, albeit a little sterile but planning to address that.

BEFORE

AFTER

Finishing touches to include floral snapshots framed in black.
In summary, after suffering a bad case of the early 90's, a violent sponge attack and ultimately severe neglect, this hallway is in critical but stable condition. More up to the minute information as it becomes available.

Outside of the Box

The kiddos keep a great deal of their homeschool supplies in the living room inside this box. Got this box at a yard sale years ago.

My handy dandy Daddy helped me construct a top for the box.
Added batting, red velvetand stain.

PUN ALERT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knew homeschooling could be so CLASSY?

Hallway Resucitation in Progress

This kind of tacky can only be mathced by a velvet printed Elvis or chunk turqoise rings paired with fringed leather...(apologies to a ton of brother-in-laws out there)

and still better you get this long hallway to appreciate every inch of it!

I guess in some settings this would be a cool zone to walk through...
So I find myself wondering, how hard is it going to be to get this border down? Will it be too much work for me........

Aaah, yeah....I think I can handle it. ( ;

More pictures when they I finish!

Pretty By Accident

I have been short a bamboo place mat for months now. It's such an eyesore to me; like a 1,000 piece puzzle all nicely put together and eek!! --the last piece is missing. I finally decided to order the missing mat, even though they only come in a set of four from Amazon. You can imagine the sigh of disappointment when they arrived and I tore into the box eager to fill that empty spot on the table and discovered this.....

............

The one on the left is the offending party.
So my first inclination was to promptly pack up said package and hurl it against the wall but then, wait. Craft mode is in high gear. Surely something could be done with these.
I tried to do a mismatch theme with new and old place mats but then it just looked like mismatched place mats. I fingered the strips and momentarily considered disassembling them all and stringing them back together to make a bamboo curtain but no...no...

Suddenly I hear the voice of The Count Dracula from Sesame Street in my head...AHA!
Some liquid nails and
so much for comfy bottoms plus I have once again evaded the need to sew!
My final plans for this space is to paint and lower the lighting a few inches and add curtains panels...which is another shop online failure but I'll save that until I have a happy ending to write!

Chair Makeover

Remember this Saturday find?
Well, it cleaned up well!

This fabric makes my heart go pitter patter...
I would love to shake the hand of whoever designed this but I suppose I'll have to settle for patting myself on the back for finding it and on the remnants table, no less!

Hooked on Sparkles

So I found this new version of the pink sparkles. I found that if you start with a purple base coat, it has more drama... or more tackiness...  : D

Saturday Hauls

There are two unspoken occasions in a southern girl's life when it is socially acceptable to leave the house without makeup. The 1st would be a late night emergency room visit and the 2nd is
So I found some lovely little projects today. Adam has his heart set on a pirate theme for his room. I found this lovely chest at a "Tag Sale" which is in a nut shell, an over priced yard sale. I went as they were tearing down and got this chest for 1/2 off $5.
But wait, no....could it be that the horrid contact paper was put on for no apparent reason? Really?
Aahhh...yeah!
But wait there's more! Scored this for $1 right as the temperatures soared to a sticky 91 F. I've got some great fabric to cover the cushion and some stain to cover those boo boos. (Incidentally, I have a plan for that huge wire spool the chair is sitting on and no, I didn't get that at a yard sale. If only I could keep up with my ideas!)

Found this lovely chandelier which really needs to be taken down a notch with a can of dark paint..I'm thinking one of the girl's rooms.
Then this cute crate that I'm planning to jazz up to store books.
Then.... I found this lovely number that I was initially planning on covering but upon closer inspection, I realized that in order to do that I'm going to actually have to learn to sew...sew....SO much for that. Brainstorming for other options. Maybe a good cleaning and some bling, bling...it would make a perfect chair for the bathroom vanity.
Ohhhh...but speaking of vanity I need to post about my cute fingernail polish!
